WRK 4th-5th Grade
New City Catechism Q&A 4

Question 4: How and why did God create us? God created us male and female in his own image to glorify him.

This lesson aims to ground children in the knowledge that they were created by a loving God in order to rule over his creation and to show his likeness to the world, while glorifying him with their lives. (Genesis 1:27)

Esther Saved Her People (Esther)

Bible Story Summary: The king of Persia chose Esther, a Jew, to be his queen. Esther’s cousin Mordecai heard of an evil plan to destroy God’s people. God used Esther to save His people.

Big Picture Q&A: How should we feel when we sin? When we sin, we should feel sorry that we have disobeyed God and want to turn from our sin because we love Him.

Christ Connection: God was in control over Haman’s evil plan to destroy the Jews. Like Haman, Satan wants to ruin God’s plan and destroy believers. Satan thought he had won when Jesus died on the cross, but God raised Jesus from the dead and defeated Satan once and for all. All who believe in Jesus are rescued from sin and death.

Family Discussion Starters:

  • What was Haman’s evil plan?

  • What did Esther ask Mordecai and the Jews to do before she approached the king?

Family Activity: Take turns playing with a remote control car or helicopter. Set up an obstacle course for each family member to guide the car through. Afterward, talk about how the remote gave control to whoever was holding it. While we aren’t perfect with that power, God is always perfect and will work out His good plans, no matter what!

The Warrior Leader

Pg. 108-115 | Joshua 3 & 6 | Video

Introduction: Obeying God can be hard, and at times He may ask you to do things that don’t make sense. However, God uses these things to build our trust in Him and show what He is the one that is responsible for success. God uses our trust to do greater things than we can do on our own.

Big Truth: God loves His Children

All that God does and all that God commands for His children stems from His love. No matter what happens in this life, we can trust that God is perfectly loving towards His children.

Activity: Sing “Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho” and remind your child that God was the one responsible for the defeat of the city.

WRL 2 Year Olds
David & the Very Big Giant

This is a true story from the Bible about how God’s used David, a young boy, to defeat an enemy of Israel. While the rest of Israel was afraid, David had faith that God would help him defeat Goliath the Philistine.

Play: Play Tower Tumble. Build a tower out of Legos or blocks with the kids and let them knock it over. Do this multiple times if you’d like. Tell the kids that God loves them and will protect them. He can knock down towers, defeat giants who defy him, and protect the kids’ hearts from evil.

Big Theology for Little Hearts: The Church

Our lesson for Sunday was “People at church sing, talk to God, and listen to Bible stories.” and we read The Church by Devon Provencher. This book presents words and phrases that relate to the church. From these pages, our Littles are learning foundational truths about how much God and Christians love them.

WRL Babies
God Helps Me

This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “God helps me.” For those who believe, God gives the Helper, the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:16,26). As you do things to help your Little this week teach him that God loves him and pray that he would know God and experience the help He offers through His Spirit.
