New City Catechism Q&A 13
Q&A 13: Can anyone keep the law of God? Since the fall, no human has been able to keep the law of God perfectly.
This lesson’s aim is to introduce the kids to the concept of original sin. The law of God has been kept perfectly only by Jesus. No other human has, is, or will be able to keep God’s law.

Jesus was Born (Matt 1; Lk 2; Jn 1)
Bible Story Summary: Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem, the city of David. While they were there, Mary had her baby and named Him Jesus. An angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds and said: “Today a Savior, who is the Messiah and the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.” The shepherds hurried to find Jesus. Then they told others the good news of His birth and praised God.
Big Picture Q&A: What did Jesus do to save us? Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead.
Christ Connection: The birth of Jesus was good news! Jesus was not an ordinary baby. He is God’s Son, sent to earth from heaven. Jesus, the promised Savior, came into the world to show us what God is like and to deliver us from sin and death.
Family Discussion Starters:
How do Christmas traditions help us celebrate the birth of Jesus?
In what ways did Mary and Joseph obey God?
What is special about Jesus?
Family Activity: Contact your local pregnancy help center (Thrive or YoungLives) and see what supplies they need. As a family, go shopping for some of the requested supplies. Then go to the pregnancy help center and donate the items. Pray for the families and babies who will use those supplies.

Operation: “No More Tears!”
Pg. 144-151 | Isaiah | Video
Introduction: The book of Isaiah is long and poetic, which can make it difficult to understand. This is a book of hope, looking forward to the promises of God and specifically the work of Jesus. God, long before the creation of the world, knew exactly what was going to happen when He sent Jesus. We can rejoice in what God has done and look forward with hope to the future.
Big Truth: God is in Control
God is sovereign over everything, meaning He is powerful enough to accomplish everything that He has promised. This, coupled with His goodness and love, helps us trust Him in all things and for all things.
Activity: Sing the song “I’ve Got Peace Like a River” and explain that we have peace, love and joy because we can trust our good God.

The Boy who Shared his Sandwich
This story comes from John 6 when Jesus feeds the 5,000. Jesus’ miracles were signs that show us who he is. Jesus told the crowd that he had come to get them something much, much better than food: “Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (Jn 6:35). He went on to tell them that he would give his life to pay for our sins, so that anyone who believes in him will have life for ever, in heaven with God.
Teach your child that People are important to God. God cares for us an provides not only for our physical needs but our spiritual needs as well.
Play: Play Chef! Ask the kids to play like they’re cooking for all of their friends. Let them “cook” something up in the kitchen. Remind them that we need food, but even more than that we need Jesus to give us life!

From Eden to Bethlehem: An Animal Primer
Our lesson for Sunday was “God made animals, birds and fish too,” and we read From Eden to Bethlehem.
This book presents different animals and scriptures that relate to them throughout the Bible. Go through the different animals with your littles and see which animal noises they can make. Snake (Gen 3:15); Ram (Gen 22:16, 18); Wolf (Isa 9:6; 11:6); Lion (Isa 11:7, 9); Donkey (Lk 1:30-32); Sheep (Lk 2:10-11, 13-14); Camel (Mt 2:11). Help you Littles with their animal sounds and talk about how God created animals!
WRL Babies
Jesus was born.
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “Jesus was born.” Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. God didn’t leave us alone in our sin, but sent his Son in order to save us. Speak John 3:16 over your child, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life,” and pray that he or she would come to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior from a young age.
