Recap Week
This Sunday, we had a morning of fun recapping the questions we’ve learned thus far. We played a recap game and enjoyed time outside. For our kids who have worked on memorizing the questions, answers, and Scriptures, they were given the chance to recite what they’ve memorized and earn tickets towards a prize at the end of the semester. Here’s what we recapped:
Q&A 7: What does the law of God require? That we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves.
“And [Jesus] said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
Q&A 8: What is the law of God stated in the Ten Commandments? You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below—you shall not bow down to them or worship them. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. You shall not covet.
“You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3
Q&A 13: Can anyone keep the law of God perfectly? Since the fall, no human has been able to keep the law of God perfectly.
“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” Romans 3:10-12
Q&A 15: Since no one can keep the law, what is its purpose? That we may know the holy nature and will of God, and the sinful nature of our hearts; and thus our need of a Savior.
“For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:20
Q&A 17: What is idolatry? Idolatry is trusting in created things rather than the Creator.
“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened…They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.” Romans 1:21, 25
Q&A 18: Will God allow disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished? No, God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them both in this life, and in the life to come.
“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8
Q&A 21: What sort of Redeemer is needed to bring us back to God? One who is truly human and also truly God.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Jesus Came to be the Sacrifice for Sin (Hebrews 11)
Bible Story Summary: God first gave the Israelites His law through Moses so that they could understand that God is holy. The law showed that people are sinners. The law could not save the people. Jesus came to be the ultimate sacrifice for sin. He ended the old way of sacrifices by offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice—once and for all. With one sacrifice, Jesus takes away the sin of everyone who trusts in Him. Now we can live in a way that honors Him.
Big Picture Q&A: What did Jesus do to save us? Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead.
Christ Connection: Jesus came to be the sacrifice for sin. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. In Him, we have complete forgiveness once and for all
Family Discussion Starters:
How did God’s law better help the Israelites understand His character?
What is different between Jesus’ sacrifice for sin and the priests’ sacrifice for sin?
How can we live in a way that honors God?
Family Activity: Wash the family car or your home’s windows together. After the cleaning is finished, read 1 John 1:9 as a family. Discuss how the sacrifice of Jesus perfectly and fully washes away sin

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
The Light of the Whole World
Pg. 184-191 | Luke 2 | Video
Introduction: God chose to reveal the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ, to lowly shepherds in the field. He could have announced the birth of Jesus in ways that got the whole world’s attention! Instead, He chose to send His angels to shepherds, people who were considered to be nobodies. God loves all people, even those who seem unimportant, and He wants everyone to know about Jesus!
Big Truth: God Loves His Children
All that God does and all that God commands for His children stems from His love. No matter what happens in this life, we can trust that God is perfectly loving towards His children.
Activity: Sing “Hallelujah, Praise Ye the Lord” and explain that we sing worship music to God because of who He is and what He has done.

The Best Thing to Do
This story comes from Luke 10:38-42. Mary and Martha, and their brother Lazarus, were all friends of Jesus. When Jesus came to visit their home, the two women acted very differently. Mary sat at Jesus’s feet listening to him, but Martha was rushing around getting everything ready for their guest.
When Martha saw that Mary wasn’t helping, she complained to Jesus, but Jesus told her that Mary had made the best choice. Listening to Jesus is always the best thing to do!
Play: Play Simon Says. Tell your child that listening to Jesus is the most important thing we can do. We can listen to him by reading his word from the Bible and praying to him.

God Helps Me
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “God helps me.” For those who believe, God gives the Helper, the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:16,26). As you do things to help your Little this week teach him that God loves him and pray that he would know God and experience the help He offers through His Spirit.
