New City Catechism Q&A 18
Q&A 18: Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished? No, God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them both in this life, and in the life to come.
God will judge and punish all those who sin against him. The aim of this lesson is the help the kids understand that God is just and will righteously judge and punish those who have sinned against him. We also discussed forgiveness. When we put our faith in Christ, we receive forgiveness through Jesus. We belong to God and enjoy all the privileges of being in his family.

Jesus was Tempted (Matt 4; Lk 4)
Bible Story Summary: After Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit led Him into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. The devil came to Jesus and tempted Him three times. Jesus recited Scripture and resisted every temptation. Jesus trusted God at all times and never sinned. The devil left Jesus, and angels came right away to serve Jesus.
Big Picture Q&A: What did Jesus do to save us? Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead.
Christ Connection: Jesus, was tempted, but He trusted God and never sinned. Jesus is perfect and righteous. A perfect sacrifice was required to take away sin. Jesus was that perfect sacrifice. He died on the cross to free us from sin and to give us the power to say no to temptation.
Family Discussion Starters:
In what ways did the devil tempt Jesus?
How did Jesus resist the devil’s temptations?
What are some Bible verses that help you remember to follow God instead of following temptation?
Why is it important that Jesus never sinned?
Family Activity: Jesus used Scripture to battle the devil’s temptation. Look up some verses that can help you do the same. As a family, choose one and spend time memorizing it together.

Introduction: God’s rules and law point us to our need for Jesus as a rescuer. The people of Israel were reminded of how they repeatedly turned away from God and how they were unable to follow Him as they should. They realize their need for a rescuer, and God is showing them that He is who they need to depend on.
Big Truth: God Sent a Savior
Our hearts are broken and our world is broken. Because we can’t fix things, we need a savior to make things right and restore relationships. Thankfully, God sent Jesus and the victory over sin and death is already won!
Activity: Sing “My God is so Big” and explain that God is the Rescuer and only He is powerful enough to save us.

How can I pray?
Today we read How can I pray? by Steph Williams and learned that God loves for us to talk to him. This book is taken from Matthew 6:5, 7-13.
“This story contains a well-known prayer that Jesus taught his followers, called “The Lord’s Prayer”. Although the prayer is often prayed word for word as it is recorded in the Bible, we know from what Jesus said just beforehand that it is the meaning, and not just the words, that are important.
Jesus used two examples of people praying to explain that we cannot earn God’s help or favor with special words or the length of our prayers. Neither is prayer a ritual to keep in order to look or feel religious. In striking contrast, Jesus said that we can have a close and genuine relationship with God as our loving Father.
How could Jesus make such a claim? Because he had come to stand in our place, by dying on the cross, to take away God’s judgement of our wrongs, and give us the privileged status of God’s children. This is how imperfect people can know the perfectly good, almighty God, and enjoy his love and blessing forever.” – A note to the parents
Sing: Sing and dance along to The Lord’s Prayer by Saddleback Kids.
Create: Talk with your two year old about what he or she needs prayer for, who else y’all can pray for, and what your family needs prayer for. As you discuss, write each prayer request on a strip of paper. Continue to pray for these requests and as you experience God meet needs and answer prayers, close the strips into rings and connect until you have a chain of answered prayers! A wonderful visual representative of God’s faithfulness.

Big Theology for Little Hearts: GOD
Our lesson for Sunday was “God is good” and we read GOD by Devon Provencher.
Through this lesson, we learned that God is Creator, King, Trinity, Holy, Eternal, Unchanging, Just, Good, Loving, and worthy of all Glory.
As you go throughout your week, notice when you encounter the different aspects of who God is and point those truths out to your child. Have a fun dance session with this song.
WRL Babies
Jesus grew like me.
This week’s lesson for our babies is “Jesus grew like me.” When you attend a 1 year old’s birthday party, you often see a string of photos showing how they have grown from newborn to 12 months old. We can clearly see how the child has grown. Just like our babies, Jesus grew in his first year. As well as his second, third, and so on. Remind your child that Jesus is both fully God and fully human. As a human, he grew up just like they are. Have fun with it and show your baby photos of you growing up!
