Scripture Memory

Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

Hebrews 11:6

People Amazed by Jesus (Luke 4)

Bible Story Summary: Jesus traveled to Capernaum with His disciples. He went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed with Jesus’ teaching. Jesus performed miracles and healed people of unclean spirits and sickness. Everyone was amazed. Jesus said that He must go to other towns and preach the good news for this is why He had come.

Big Picture Q&A: How can we be saved? We are only saved through faith in Jesus.

Christ Connection: Jesus’ miracles proved that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. His miracles strengthened people’s faith and met their needs. Through Jesus, God did what is impossible for us to do on our own. He provided forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life.

Family Discussion Starters:

  • How was Jesus’ teaching different than that of the scribes?

  • Why did Jesus say He had come?

  • How did Jesus’ miracles prove that He is the Messiah?

Family Activity: Look up some amazing animal facts online. Then discuss how what Jesus has done for us is even more amazing than those facts.

Scripture Memory

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to the Most High.”

Psalm 92:1

Advent: Joy

Luke 2:8-21 | Jesus Storybook Bible | Pg. 184-191

Summary: In the midst of a dark night and a dark world, the Savior was born! A group of shepherds received news from an angel that Jesus had born in Bethlehem. They set out to meet him that very night and were filled with joy to discover that the one who came to take away sin and death had arrived.

Big Truth: God sent a Savior

Our hearts are broken and our world is broken. Because we can’t fix things, we need a savior to make things right and restore relationships. Thankfully, God sent Jesus and the victory over sin and death is already won!

Activity: Sing and dance along to the song, “Joy to the World”. Remind your children that as believers in Jesus, we have joy. Even when things seem sad and hard, we can have joy in knowing that God is with us and he cares for us.

Noah and the Very Big Boat

This is the story God sparing Noah from the great flood! You can watch the story here.

Play: Name that Animal – Make different animal sounds and see if the kids can guess the animal it belongs to (ex. Monkey, elephant, dog, cat, goat, bear, tiger, etc.) Explain that even though the whole world was bad, bad, bad, God promised to keep Noah and his family safe through the flood. He kept his promise and then made another promise to never flood the earth again.

Big Theology for Little Hearts: THE HOLY SPIRIT

Our lesson for Sunday was “God loves people and is with them,” and we read THE HOLY SPIRIT by Devon Provencher.

WRL Babies
God said His creation is good.

This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “God said His creation is good.” We read Let their be light: An Opposites Primer and talked about how each part of God’s creation is good. We also held up a mirror to your child and told him that God also created him and declared him to be good. As you go throughout your week with your child, remind him or her frequently of God’s good creation including you and your child!
