WRK 4th-5th Grade
New City Catechism Q&A 19

Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God’s favor?

Yes! God reconciles us to himself by a Redeemer.

MV: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” Romans 3:23-24

God has made provision to bring people into a right relationship with him. The aim of this lesson is to help the kids understand that there is a clear way back into God’s favor through Jesus the Redeemer.

Scripture Memory

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to you. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.”

Jesus Taught about God’s Love (Luke 15)

Bible Story Summary: Jesus told the tax collectors and sinners parables about a lost coin and a lost sheep. Jesus said when they were found, there was much rejoicing! Jesus also taught about a lost son whose father rejoiced when he came home. Jesus said, “In heaven, there is joy when one sinner repents and turns back to God.”

Big Picture Q&A: What did Jesus teach when He was on earth? Jesus taught about God and His kingdom. He taught that all Scripture is about Him.

Christ Connection: Jesus told these parables to teach about God’s love. God sent Jesus so sinners can be forgiven. As Savior, Jesus loves and seeks sinners. He paid the ultimate price—His own life—to save people from sin.

Family Discussion Starters:

  • What happened each time the lost item was found?
  • What happens in heaven when a sinner repents?
  • How are we lost? How does Jesus find and save us?

Family Activity: Throw a party and celebrate God’s love. Consider inviting friends or another family to join you. Bake tasty treats, write thank-you notes to God for His love, and play some fun games. Discuss how we can always celebrate the love God has shown us through Jesus. Remind kids that Jesus came to seek and save us because He loves us.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,

Psalm 92:1

A Man Who Didn’t Have Any Friends (None)

Pg. 264-271 | Luke 19 | Video

Introduction: God loves people with an unconditional love. He loves those whom other people think are unloveable. Even when it may feel like no one else loves or cares for us, God does and He shows us how great His love is through Jesus!

Big Truth: God loves His children

All that God does and all that God commands for His children stems from His love. No matter what happens in this life, we can trust that God is perfectly loving towards His children.

Activity: Sing “Zacchaeus Sing-Along” and explain that Jesus loves everyone, even those that others think are unloveable.

The Man who would not be Quite

This story comes from Mark 10:46-52. Bartimaeus was a blind beggar, but he could see who Jesus really was. He called Jesus the “Son of David”, another name for the Christ, God’s promised perfect King, who would be from the family of King David. So in this story we call Jesus “the best King ever! The one God said was coming!” Bartimaeus believed that Jesus was the promised King, and also that Jesus could heal him. Bartimaeus believed in Jesus and followed him. Jesus welcomes everyone who believes in him and wants to follow him.

Jesus makes things better…and not just eyes. The Bible tells us that we are separated from God by our sin—the wrong things we do, say and thing. Jesus came to make this better. If we trust in Jesus, we can have our sin forgiven and be friends with God forever.

Play: Play “Red Light, Green Light”, but instead of moment use noise. When you say “green light” the Littles can be loud. When you say “red light” they are silent. “Yellow light” is a whisper.

Big Theology for Little Hearts: Creation

Our lesson for Sunday was “God made people,” and we read CREATION by Devon Provencher. This book presents words and phrases that relate to creation: out of nothing, garden, image of God, rest, marriage, roles, be fruitful, good, fall, and new creation. From these pages, our Littles are learning foundational truths about God’s world.

WRL Babies
God said His creation is good.

This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “God said His creation is good.” We read Let their be light: An Opposites Primer and talked about how each part of God’s creation is good. We also held up a mirror to your child and told him that God also created him and declared him to be good. As you go throughout your week with your child, remind him or her frequently of God’s good creation including you and your child!
