Leaders wanted to trick Jesus (Mt 22)
Bible Story Summary: The religious leaders sent men to trick Jesus. The men asked Jesus questions about paying taxes to Caesar and about the greatest command in the law. Jesus answered their questions with wisdom and truth. The men were amazed and unable to trick Jesus. Jesus asked the men a question about whose son is the Messiah. The men could not answer. Their plan failed.
Big Picture Q&A: How is Jesus the perfect Prophet? Jesus perfectly reveals God the Father and fulfills what the prophets spoke.
Christ Connection: When the religious leaders questioned Jesus, He answered with wisdom and power. Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. He is the Word of God, who came to show us exactly what God is like.
Family Discussion Starters:
- Why did the religious leaders ask Jesus questions?
- How did Jesus’ answers show that He is the Messiah, the Son of God?
Family Activity: Jesus commands us to love our neighbor as ourself. Choose at least one neighbor to show love to this week. Consider taking a meal, offering to do yard work, or completing some other task that can help your neighbor feel loved.

Introduction: In order for Jesus’ disciples to be able to tell the world of the happy news about Jesus, they had to wait to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Once they all had the Holy Spirit of God within them, they had a new heart, a new perspective on life, and a new boldness to share the message of a resurrected Jesus with the world!
Big Truth: God sent a Savior
Our hearts are broken and our world is broken. Because we can’t fix things, we need a Savior to make things right and restore relationships. Thankfully, God sent Jesus and now the victory over sin and death is already won!
Activity: Sing “I’ve Got a River of Life” and explain that the Spirit enables them to know God and share the happy news with others.

The Bible Tells about God
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “The Bible tells about God.” We can begin introducing our Littles to the truths of the Bible even at their very young age.
Tell your Littles that everything in the Bible is true and tells us about God.
Pray over them that the Holy Spirit would reveal truth from the youngest age, and that they wouldn’t remember a day they weren’t walking with God.
