WRK 4th-5th Grade
New City Catechism

This Sunday we are recapping the last 6 weeks. We celebrated with the 5th graders as this is their last Sunday in our Kids Ministry! We are so excited for them to join WR Students next Sunday!

We had donuts, played outside, and reviewed the following Q&A as well as Scriptures we memorized.

Q30 What is faith in Jesus Christ? Receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” Galatians 2:20

Q44 What is baptism? Baptism is the washing with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

Q46 What is the Lord’s Supper? Christ commanded all Christians to eat bread and to drink from the cup in thankful remembrance of him.

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:26

Q48 What is the church? A community elected for eternal life and united by faith, who love, follow, learn from, and worship God together.

“But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.” 2 Thessalonians 2:13

Q49 Where is Christ now? Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father, ruling his kingdom and interceding for us, until he returns to judge and renew the whole world.

“He raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” Ephesians 1:20–21

Q52 What hope does everlasting life hold for us? That we will live with and enjoy God forever in the new heaven and the new earth, where we will be forever freed from all sin in a renewed, restored creation.

“Pray continually” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Scripture Memory

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.”

Hebrews 4:15

Jesus was Arrested (Mt 26; Mk 14; Lk 22)

Bible Story Summary: Jesus told His disciples that one of them—Judas Iscariot— would betray Him. Jesus also said the disciples would abandon Him. But Peter said he would never deny Jesus. Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane to pray because He was sad and troubled. Jesus desired to do God’s plan. Judas arrived with a crowd who arrested Jesus. The disciples left Jesus, and Peter denied Him three times.

Big Picture Q&A: How is Jesus the perfect Priest? Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for sin, and He speaks to God the Father for us today.

Christ Connection: Jesus knew that His death was God’s plan to save people from sin. Jesus’ friends turned against Him and He was arrested and put on trial, but Jesus followed His Father’s plan in order to bring salvation to the world.

Family Discussion Starters:

  • How did Jesus respond when He faced hard times?
  • Why did Jesus tell Peter to put away his sword when the soldiers came to arrest Him?
  • How can we respond in suffering?

Family Activity: Consider giving up something you enjoy this week like TV, video games, dessert, or even a meal, if health permits. As you think about what you have temporarily given up, ask God to remind you of the suffering and the sacrifice of Jesus.

WRL 3-5 Year Olds
Scripture Memory

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

A New Beginning

Pg. 38-47 | Genesis 6-9

Introduction: Sin is deeper than just “following the rules.” Genesis 6:5 says that all were evil, every single one of them. God judged people by sending the flood, but Noah was rescued from this destruction because he finds favor with God. It does not say he earns favor but finds it. This points to God’s grace. God’s rescue of us is similar as it is given to us by God and not earned.

Big Truth: God is making all things new.

God created all things good, but everything was broken when Adam and Eve rebelled against God. However, through Christ, God is making all things new. He is restoring them to how they were supposed to be!

Activity: Sing “Arky Arky” and remind your child of God’s feelings towards sin and His rescuing grace.

WRL 2 Year Olds
Esther and the Very Brave Plan

“Maybe this is the reason you are queen – for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14

In this lesson, our Littles learned “God has plans for me” by reading Esther and the Very Brave Plan.

Play: Plan and throw a little family party, allowing your two year old to make the plans. Decorate how he or she wants, and allow him or her to decide the menu, games, etc. Talk with your child about how God has good plans for him or her, and say a prayer of thanks for God’s plan of sending Jesus as our rescuer!

Big Theology for Little Hearts: THE HOLY SPIRIT

Our lesson for Sunday was “God loves people and is with them,” and we read THE HOLY SPIRIT by Devon Provencher.

WRL Babies
 Jesus grew like me.

This week’s lesson for our babies is “Jesus grew like me.” When you attend a 1 year old’s birthday party, you often see a string of photos showing how they have grown from newborn to 12 months old. We can clearly see how the child has grown. Just like our babies, Jesus grew in his first year. As well as his second, third, and so on. Remind your child that Jesus is both fully God and fully human. As a human, he grew up just like they are. Have fun with it and show your baby photos of you growing up!
