Jesus is Our Perfect King (Colossians 1)
Bible Story Summary: Paul wrote a letter to the church in Colossae to remind them of the truth about Jesus. Paul wrote that Jesus shows us what God is like, that He is the Creator who has always existed. He wrote that Jesus holds all things together, is the head of the church, and that His blood on the cross saves people from sin. Paul reminded the believers that their sin had separated them from God. But now, they had salvation and forgiveness through faith in Jesus.
Big Picture Q&A: How is Jesus the perfect King? Jesus perfectly rules over the universe as the King of kings.
Christ Connection: Paul encouraged believers by reminding them that Jesus is great. Jesus is God’s Son, and He died on the cross to rescue people from sin. Jesus conquered sin and death and reigns as King over all.
Family Discussion Starters:
- What words did Paul use to describe Jesus? What words would you use?
- What is the only way to have true salvation and forgiveness?
Family Activity: Set a schedule for each family member to be “king” or “queen” for a day. Allow them privileges to pick meals, be served first, and assign tasks for others to help them throughout the day. Compare their ways of ruling to the perfect ways Jesus rules as King.

Scripture Memory
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.“
The Forgiving Prince
Pg. 76-83 | Genesis 37-46
Introduction: Jacob gave his beautiful robe to his favorite son, Joseph. This caused Joseph’s brothers to become angry and sell him into slavery. After years of hardship, Joseph forgave his brothers because he saw that it was God’s good plan. Even in a bad situation, Joseph trusted that God was in control. We can always trust God, because God is working all things for the good of His people.
Big Truth: God is in control.
God is Sovereign over everything, meaning He is powerful enough to accomplish everything that He has promised. This, coupled with His goodness and love, helps us trust Him in all things and for all things.
Activity: Sing “I’ve Got Peace like a River”. Explain that Joseph had peace, love and joy because he trusted that God was in control.

The Man who would not be Quite
This story comes from Mark 10:46-52. Bartimaeus was a blind beggar, but he could see who Jesus really was. He called Jesus the “Son of David”, another name for the Christ, God’s promised perfect King, who would be from the family of King David. So in this story we call Jesus “the best King ever! The one God said was coming!” Bartimaeus believed that Jesus was the promised King, and also that Jesus could heal him. Bartimaeus believed in Jesus and followed him. Jesus welcomes everyone who believes in him and wants to follow him.
Jesus makes things better…and not just eyes. The Bible tells us that we are separated from God by our sin—the wrong things we do, say and thing. Jesus came to make this better. If we trust in Jesus, we can have our sin forgiven and be friends with God forever.
Play: Play “Red Light, Green Light”, but instead of moment use noise. When you say “green light” the Littles can be loud. When you say “red light” they are silent. “Yellow light” is a whisper.

Holy Week: An Emotions Primer
Our biblical lesson for the week is: Jesus is alive! We read Holy Week, which presents different emotions and passages that relate to them throughout the Bible. As you go throughout the week, point out different emotions your Littles are exhibiting and explain that you also have emotions and so does Jesus! Tell them that Jesus is alive and cares about how they feel.
WRL Babies
People at church sing, talk to God, and listen to Bible Stories.
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “People at church sing, talk to God, and listen to Bible stories.” It is a healthy and important practice that we gather as a church community each week, and it’s good for our babies to experience this rhythm of our lives. As you talk about church throughout the week, explain to your Littles that you attend church in order to worship God and be encouraged by other Christians.
