Recap Week

This Sunday, we had a morning of fun recapping the questions and Scriptures we’ve learned thus far. We played a recap game and enjoyed donuts. For our kids who have worked on memorizing the questions, answers, and Scriptures, they were given the chance to recite what they’ve memorized and earn tickets towards a prize at the end of the semester.

Scripture Memory

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to you. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.”

Jesus’ Miracles Prove He is God (John 14)

Bible Story Summary: One day, Jesus went up on a mountain. He sat down and began to teach people about the kingdom of God. Jesus taught about the blessings that come to those who follow Him. He taught how believers should live so that others praise God. Jesus taught that He came to fulfill the law and that people must be made righteous on the inside.

Big Picture Q&A: What did Jesus teach when He was on earth? Jesus taught about God and His kingdom. He taught that all Scripture is about Him.

Christ Connection: Jesus taught people what it means to follow Him. He taught how people should live. People who trust in Jesus live to honor God and show what His kingdom is like.

Family Discussion Starters:

  • Does our obedience to God’s law save us? Why not?
  • How do people in God’s kingdom live? How does this show God has given us new hearts that love Him?

Family Activity: Gather 5–10 candles or flashlights. Turn off the lights in a room. One by one, light a candle or turn on a flashlight. Observe how each light brightens the room little by little. Discuss how each light is similar to how our good deeds reflect the truth of Jesus. Remind kids that we are called to live in a way that shows others what Jesus is like.

Scripture Memory

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to the Most High.”

Psalm 92:1

Treasure Hunt!

Pg. 250-255 | Matthew 13 | Video

Summary: Jesus’ story about the hidden treasure helps us learn that we are greatly valued by God. Being a part of God’s family is more valuable than anything in all the world. Everything else in this world is worth giving up to be with God, because He is the real treasure!

Big Truth: God loves His Children

All that God does and all that God commands for His children stems from His love. No matter what happens in this life, we can trust that God is perfectly loving towards His children.

Activity: Sing “This Little Light of Mine” and explain that the Gospel is very valuable. It’s the best news in the whole world and we want to share it with others.

Jonah and the Very Big Whale

Jonah disobeyed God’s call to go to Nineveh and tell them to repent, or change their sinful ways. Jonah tries to flee from God but God redirects his plans and Jonah ends up in Nineveh anyways. When God shows mercy to Nineveh because they repent, Jonah is upset. God has shows us great mercy and accepts Jesus’ punishment on the cross instead of punishing us.

Play: Play Simon Says with your kids and tell them that listening to God is the most important thing we can do. We can listen to him by reading his word from the Bible and praying to him.

Big Theology for Little Hearts: GOD

Our lesson for Sunday was “God is good” and we read GOD by Devon Provencher.

Through this lesson, we learned that God is Creator, King, Trinity, Holy, Eternal, Unchanging, Just, Good, Loving, and worthy of all Glory.

As you go throughout your week, notice when you encounter the different aspects of who God is and point those truths out to your child. Have a fun dance session with this song.

WRL Babies
People at church sing, talk to God, and listen to Bible Stories.

This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “People at church sing, talk to God, and listen to Bible stories.” It is a healthy and important practice that we gather as a church community each week, and it’s good for our babies to experience this rhythm of our lives. As you talk about church throughout the week, explain to your Littles that you attend church in order to worship God and be encouraged by other Christians.
