New City Catechism Q&A 49
Where is Christ now?
Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
Memory Verse: “He raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” Eph. 1:20-21
Jesus Christ rose from the grave and, in his resurrected body, ascended into heaven. The aim of this lesson is to help our kids understand that Jesus lives and reigns even though he is not on earth. The Bible passage for this lesson is Ephesians 1:15-23.

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus was Anointed (Mt 26; Mk 14; Jn 12)
Bible Story Summary: While Jesus ate a meal with friends, Mary anointed Jesus with very expensive oil. Some of the disciples became angry. They thought Mary had wasted the oil. Jesus told the disciples that Mary had done a very good thing for Him. He said that Mary had prepared His body for burial and that wherever the gospel was told, Mary would be remembered.
Big Picture Q&A: How is Jesus the perfect Priest? Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for sin, and He speaks to God the Father for us today.
Christ Connection: Pouring the expensive oil on Jesus was not a waste; it was worship. By allowing Mary to anoint Him, Jesus showed that He is more valuable than anything. Jesus knew He would soon die, be buried, and rise from the dead on the third day to rescue sinners.
Family Discussion Starters:
- Why did Lazarus’ sister Mary pour expensive oil on Jesus’ head and feet?
- What is a way we can show that Jesus is more valuable than anything else?
Family Activity: Take turns washing family members’ feet. After washing and drying, use oil or lotion on their feet. Explain that in the Bible, this action was a sign of love. Ask kids to imagine how Mary’s gift would have smelled in the house where Jesus was dining.

The Beginning: A Perfect Home
Pg. 18-27 | Genesis 1-2
Introduction: God is the Creator of everything in the whole universe. Everything God creates is good. God created us to be in relationship with Him and others. In the beginning, everything was good, it was perfect.
Big Truth: God is in Control
God is sovereign over everything, meaning He is powerful enough to accomplish everything that He has promised. This, coupled with His goodness and love, helps us trust Him in all things and for all things.
Activity: Sing “My God is so Big” and explain that God was able to create everything because He is so powerful.

David & the Very Big Giant
This is a true story from the Bible about how God’s used David, a young boy, to defeat an enemy of Israel. While the rest of Israel was afraid, David had faith that God would help him defeat Goliath the Philistine.
Play: Play Tower Tumble. Build a tower out of Legos or blocks with the kids and let them knock it over. Do this multiple times if you’d like. Tell the kids that God loves them and will protect them. He can knock down towers, defeat giants who defy him, and protect the kids’ hearts from evil.

Big Theology for Little Hearts: GOD
Our lesson for Sunday was “God is good” and we read GOD by Devon Provencher.
Through this lesson, we learned that God is Creator, King, Trinity, Holy, Eternal, Unchanging, Just, Good, Loving, and worthy of all Glory.
As you go throughout your week, notice when you encounter the different aspects of who God is and point those truths out to your child. Have a fun dance session with this song.
WRL Babies
Jesus was born.
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “Jesus was born.” Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. God didn’t leave us alone in our sin, but sent his Son in order to save us. Speak John 3:16 over your child, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life,” and pray that he or she would come to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior from a young age.
