New City Catechism Q&A 7
Question 7: What does the law of God require? That we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves.
Memory Verse: “And Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39

Peter Confronted Sin (Acts 4-5)
Bible Story Summary: A large group of believers in Jerusalem shared everything they had and gladly helped other believers in need. Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, sold some land and pretended to give all the money to help people. Peter asked them why they lied to the Holy Spirit. Both Ananias and Sapphira died because of their sin.
Big Picture Q&A: Why does God command Christians to tell others about Jesus? We tell others about Jesus so they will hear and believe the good news.
Christ Connection: Ananias and Sapphira wanted to look generous, but they were greedy and chose to lie. The Holy Spirit changes our hearts to want to share with those in need. Jesus generously gave all He had so we can share in His riches and have forgiveness and eternal life.
Family Discussion Starters:
- How has God shown us generosity through Jesus?
- How does giving to others show the love of Jesus?
- What should we do when we don’t feel generous?
Family Activity: Label a mason jar as the Share Jar for your family. On strips of paper, write ways to show generosity to others such as bake cookies for a neighbor, donate clothing to a local shelter, spend time with someone who is lonely, etc. Decide how often you will draw a strip of paper and perform each act of generosity for others.

A Little Servant Girl & the Proud General
Pg. 136-143 | 2 Kings 5
Introduction: Naaman was a leader that believed he had earned his way to the top. When Elisha told Naaman what to do to be haled, he gets angry because of his pride. Even though the tasks asked of him were easy, Naaman had a hard time with them because he had to rely on God’s grace rather than his own abilities. Salvation and relationship with God is not something we can achieve—it’s something we receive as a gift from God
Big Truth: God is in control
God is sovereign over everything, meaning He is powerful enough to accomplish everything that He has promised. This, coupled with His goodness and love, helps us trust Him in all things and for all things.
Activity: Sing the song “I Love You, Lord” and explain that we worship God out of love and thankfulness for who He is and what He has done for us through Jesus.

The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross: The Choice We’ve All Made
God’s Word tells us Adam and Eve decided they didn’t want to listen to God. The Bible calls this “sin”, and everyone sins. Sin means we can’t live with God. The good news is: God has a plan to fix sin.
Activity: Have paper/card “X”s or “Keep Out” signs for the children to decorate with red finger paint or pieces of red paper.

Moses and the Very Big Rescue
After being slaves in Egypt for years, God rose up a leader, Moses, to lead His people out of Egypt to the Promised Land. Moses told Pharaoh to let God’s people go 9 times, and finally, on the 10th time, Pharaoh let them go. As they were leaving Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind and chased after God’s people, but by God’s power, Moses was able to part the sea and the Israelites escaped to safety. Moses and the rest of God’s people praised God for His great rescue!
Play: Make different instruments and sing, dance, and celebrate as a family all God has done for you! Keep the spirit of Thanksgiving going in the coming week.

God Helps Me
This week’s biblical concept for our babies is “God helps me.” For those who believe, God gives the Helper, the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:16,26). As you do things to help your Little this week teach him that God loves him and pray that he would know God and experience the help He offers through His Spirit.
